I started a new job last month.

I resent how concise and tidy that sentence is. The reality of the change is so much messier, wider, and fraught than that sentence representing it.

  • I said goodbye to the startup that made me into a capable and confident leader.
  • I said goodbye to an executive team I miss daily.
  • I shaped a product and a business in ways I am really proud of then trusted it could grow up without me.
  • I chose–for now–to focus on the craft of my discipline instead of the craft of managing larger and more complex teams.
  • I chose to optimize for optionality in my career over other, more tangible, values like vertical expertise, stage-specific expertise, or a specific job title.
  • I followed my intuition and my curiosity toward a horizontal, complicated set of problems where I can create meaningful impact.

When I started this post I didn’t expect it to be about changing jobs, but here we are. I intended the post to be about why I’m reactivating this website.

The first time I launched chelseabullock.com it was to perform credibility in my first professional job search beyond academia. The site was neglected once I no longer needed a portfolio to land jobs, so I allowed the hosting to lapse. As my career has evolved and matured, I no longer need a website for job searching. I need a website to scale and share what I’m learning (and the occasional hot take).

I’ve copied and pasted enough blocks of writing to enough people that I know it’s time to publish some of it. Frequency of new content will vary. Names will be changed to protect the innocent. Sources will be cited.

All writing published on this site will be my original work unless explicitly presented as someone else’s.

Talk soon.
